By Shamsi Anajafi, hunger striker in Camp Liberty
On September 1, 2013, Iraqi Special Forces – AKA “Dirty Division” – attacked Camp Ashraf under the direct command of Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri Al-Maliki at the behest of the Iranian regime. They murdered 52 of the camp’s residents, unarmed and defenseless civilians, and abducted seven others, including six women.
The United States and United Nation were responsible for their safety and security, but they failed in protecting them.
Maliki is trying to deny having taken part in this horrible crime against humanity that shocked the world to escape facing its consequences. He also denies having the hostages in his custody. But reliable and authentic documents and testimonies by survivors and witnesses of the massacre prove the contrary.
All evidences and reports indicate that the hostages are currently in one of the notorious secret prisons of the Iraqi government in Baghdad, and Maliki is planning on surrendering them to Iran, where they will be tortured and executed by the Iranian regime.
The US and UN’s silence and inaction will help him complete the final piece of his puzzle.
We have been calling on the US and UN to take immediate action to put pressure on Maliki to free the seven hostages and protect the rest of us from similar attacks. Instead of hearing our voice, President Obama has preferred to listen and repeat the obvious lies of the Iraqi government, giving Maliki the green light to stage further massacres against us.
This outrageous betrayal to the US governments pledges and principles of human rights have left us with no other choice than to go on hunger strike to bring the US and UN to their senses and take action before more lives are lost.
Today is the 68th day of my hunger strike. The hostages have not yet been freed. Our protection has not been guaranteed. My health has deteriorated considerably. But I will continue until our just demands are met.
I call on all awakened consciences to help me in this cause.
