Families of 52 victims of September 1st massacre in Ashraf addressed President Obama in their letter, urging him to prevent the seven hostages from sharing the fate of their loved ones.
November 05, 2013
Honorable Barack Obama
President of the United States
Dear President Obama,
We, a group of family members of Ashraf’s September 1st massacre martyrs, are writing this letter to you. Forces under the command of Maliki carried out a crime against humanity and collectively executed 52 defenseless Ashraf residents and took 7 residents, 6 women and a man, hostage. The US had recognized all the victims including the 7 hostages as protected persons under the Fourth Geneva Convention and had accepted responsibility over their safety and security. All the evidence and reports show that Maliki’s Special Forces have taken the 7 residents hostage and due to the inaction of the US Government and US, are refusing to release them after the passing of 65 days.
As you know, crime against humanity at Ashraf had raised widespread antipathy in the international community. To this end, we ask that you not allow the hostages to end up with the same fate of the 52 murdered Ashraf residents. We urge you to take urgent action to free the 7 Ashrafi hostages in Iraq. We urge you to warn the Iraqi Government and pressure Maliki and call on them to release the 7 hostages as soon as possible. Your serious warnings and measures towards the Iraqi Government will play a decisive role in the release of the hostages.
